Treasures of the Vine
Fruitful Sleepover
Friday Night Devotion & Suggestions

Purpose: To celebrate the end of a great week. Use any combination of these suggestions or use your own imagination. Encourage your girls to let their lights shine for Christ and then to use and develop their hidden treasures given to them by God when He created them! We will also touch on the fruit of the Spirit as outlined in Galatians 5:22-23.

Craft Idea: Let girls make an individual treasure chest out of a clay pot using the instructions and photos on the “Craft & Activity Ideas” in the GM Week planning packet. A wrapped gift will go into each clay pot along with a card that says, “What you are is God’s gift to you! What you become is your gift to God!” (Make signs using this quote and tape them up all over the house or church on mirrors and anywhere the girls might roam as a reminder of their part of the equation.) The photo to the right shows some clay pot ideas.

Activity: Bring in several CD players and divide the girls into appropriate age groups to listen to songs that relate to the theme we’ve been talking about this week. Separate the girls into different rooms since wording on older girls’ CD might be more than you want your younger girls to hear. It’s all Christian music, but maturity levels are important with some subject matter. Listen to the music suggested, then talk about it with your girls. Discuss how it relates to the them and to their lives. (A page of suggested songs for this activity & each age group will be added as a bonus item on the website in August– be sure to visit girls.iphc.org/gmweek/gmweek/bonus.html.)

Lesson Time: Bring all the girls back together and use the illustration of the orange that was presented in the GM Day program (see Discovering Treasure) on Sunday to remind the girls that their gifts must be discovered, unwrapped, and used! As they learn how their personality traits are determined by these gifts, they will understand why they have a stronger desire to do some things than others. But they also need to understand that there are certain treasures that they CAN and must develop. A prime example of this is found in Galatians 5:22-23 with the Fruit of the Spirit. Give each girl a copy of the Fruit of the Spirit poster that you’ll find as another bonus idea on the website in August. Help her understand that as she gives her life to God, there are things she must work on to produce fruit. As she learns how to demonstrate this fruit, it is part of her gift back to God.

Hint:  See the “Working the Clay” pages in the GM Week planning packet for other ideas for the Friday night snacks (fruit kabobs) and Saturday morning wrap-up time at the sleepover.
